Coukyo Bands and Roles
★Common Band Information★
Bands without builders or those knowledgeable on construction usually live in nests. However coukyo are capable of building shacks, huts, and simple housing. Nothing too extravagant like a wood tiled house complete with heating and plumbing.
Bands can be created at any time. However a good foundation is needed, therefore it may be hard. Most commonly, new bands are formed by branching off of larger ones.
Band Culture:
All coukyo are expected to stay loyal to the band they were born in. Those who leave for their own reasons are often persecuted and viewed as untrustworthy and unpredictable. Known leavers often have trouble joining new bands.
Commonly, most bands are weary of foreign newcomers. But some are friendly.
Coukyo are capable of developing pretty advanced culture. Its pretty common for large bands to develop their own customs over generations of development.

Chief
Chiefs are often always, always, always needed in a band of coukyo. They are the ones that keep the band together, lead them through times of hardship, and make sure there is peace between band members. As well as leading, they also set the moral, ethical, cultural, social standards of the band. Depending on the chief, a band’s culture may value brawn more than brain or magic might play a very big role in band life. In bands where culture and customs influence a large part of their lives, chiefs are often seen leading rituals and celebrations.
Deputy
Deputies are next in line to become chiefs. They are second in power and will fulfill the chief’s roles when the chief cant. They are often enforcing rules and making sure the band is at peace. Deputies often serve as commanders for patrols and war when there are none.
For groups sent out to do physical work for the band, a head leader is almost always present. Physical work can include hunting missions, battle, construction, and border patrol. They keep track of the amount of coukyo sent out and make sure they report back with what they were assigned to do/bring.
Hunters
Hunters make up a large bulk of the band. They are who head out to hunt for food for their band. Usually, they move out in packs and have a queue to fill. Hunters are a vital role in coukyo communities, for they ensure nourishment for all coukyo.
Gatherers
Gatherers have similar roles as hunters, however they don’t rely solely on hunting for food. Gatherers do what their name implies. They gather necessities for their band, whether it be food, herbs or resources. They provide materials needed for necessities like building shelter, making medicine, or preparing/preserving food supplies. In small bands, hunting and gathering roles are often mashed into one.
Mentors
The job of a mentor is often intertwined with many roles in a band. Master/Apprentice roles are quite common. A healer can both work and teach their apprentice how to mix up poultices and remedies. In large bands however, there can be general mentors who teach pups important information in their bands. General mentors often enlighten pups on survival skills. They are who teach pups how to hunt and treat others with respect. If general mentors aren't present in large bands, usually it is the parents or nurses job to teach pups such things.
Healers (also known as Herbalists)
Healers work to keep Coukyo healthy, whether it be physically, mentally, or emotionally. Most of the time, Healers are there to treat the wounded or sick. They often are seen brewing up remedies and patching up wounds. However, some healers are there to aid the struggling and distressed. Much like counselors, they provide emotional and mental relief.
Nurses are responsible for caring for the elderly, sick, wounded, or young. They are often seen as nannies to pups whose parents have gone off to work. Most of the time, they work together with healers since both jobs involve caring for the weak.
Guards
In areas where a band may be threatened, guards are common. They are responsible for looking out for possible danger such as intruders and other bands. A guard is always stationed around the borders of band territory at all times. When danger is seen, they immediately report back to deputies or chiefs.
Builders
Builders work to construct shelters and structures for coukyo life.
Scouts
Scouts are common roles in moments of war or expansion. They work in stealth to retrieve information about an enemy’s location, status and movement.
Explorers
Oftentimes in large bands, some coukyo will play part as their band explorer. Explorers are often responsible for discovering new places and items of interest. For example, if a band is running low on resources, a group of explorers might head out to discover new grounds.
Messengers:
Messengers deliver messages and parcels between bands. They are common in bands during times of collaboration and war. However in large bands, messengers may be available at all times for coukyo to send out messages on leisure.
Chefs/Bakers
Chefs prepare food for coukyo. They serve the general population by providing luxury foods. Most of the time, coukyo directly eat from the rations given to them by the band’s food stock however chefs can sell prepared/cooked foods for coukyo to further enjoy. They are important during band celebrations and rituals as organizers of offerings or banquets.
Alchemist
Alchemists work on enhancing and creating objects. A lot of alchemy work is commonly used to create potions, dyes, and other consumable items of magic.
Enchanter
Enchanters work on upgrading items. Enchanters often help reinforce shelter structures, upgrade armory, and increase the potency of magical items.
Spell master
Spell masters are coukyo with great magical potential. They excel in the art of manipulating the supernatural forces around them to cast spells, wards, and other magic of offense/defense. Spell masters are often very versatile in their field and their role can be intertwined with many others. As a result, they can often work for many different fields. They can aid warriors by protecting them in field, casting spells, and warding off magic from other spell masters. They also can help with common tasks, such as building shelter. (telekinetic magic can be used to transport masses of material to builders.)
Oracle
Oracles are coukyo very spiritually in touch with guardians. They often provide guidance for coukyos in need.
Entertainer
Entertainers provide entertainments to their band. They can range from jesters, singers, artists, performers, and more.
Artisans
Artisans are skilled crafters who make many things by hand. Artisans are responsible for providing many crafts, accessories and apparel to their population. Artisans include, jewelers, tailors, embroiderers and much more. Many use magic to aid them since it's pretty hard to stitch together clothing with paws.
Elders
Elders are retired coukyo who have served their band well. Many provide enlightenment and wisdom to the younger generations. Most of the time, they are in well care of the band as gratitude for their services.
